Nordson Adhesive Dispensing Systems (ADS) sets the global standard in hot melt machines and dispensing, coating, and laminating systems. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a part of a cross-functional team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers responsible for the design and development of new innovative products for the packaging industry. They will take full ownership of assigned projects and will lead all electrical design and development activities to completion – from project planning to product design, verification, and regulatory certifications. They will work closely with software and mechanical engineers to ensure full system integration and compatibility of hardware and software components. They will also support and collaborate closely with marketing, operations, and external suppliers to ensure a seamless launch and commercial success of new products.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determine Electrical Hardware Requirements – work with product management, the sales team, and software and mechanical engineers, to translate high-level product requirements to electrical hardware requirements and ensure seamless system solution integration.
  • Develop Hardware Architecture – define the electrical architecture for new products with a focus on reliability, component risk management, and time to market. This includes detailed electrical circuit design, PCB design, and BOM creation.
  • Hardware Testing and Validation – formulate and execute detailed test plans to validate new hardware designs, ensuring all functional, performance, safety, and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Fault Analysis – diagnose and resolve all hardware design bugs and defects.
  • Technical Documentation – document all architectural and design decisions, schematics, revision history and defect resolutions, test plans, and test and validation results.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of hardware design experience in a team environment.
  • Experience in prototyping, bring-up, debugging, and design validation.
  • Advanced knowledge of digital and analog circuit design, and embedded microprocessor systems.
  • Proficiency in system-level design, including signal integrity, power integrity and thermal management.
  • Experience with CAD design tools for schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Ability to understand and identify product tradeoffs (power, performance, cost, etc.) and optimize designs to meet requirements.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes - PCA assembly and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards and Regulations such as UL, FCC, CE, and ISO.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with multi-competency, cross-functional teams globally.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, Python is beneficial.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Team leadership skills and experience is a plus.
