POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reports directly to the Director of Clinical Support Services. Responsible for direction of Respiratory Care Department, administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system. Performs diagnostic tests of cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. The Department Manager is also responsible for the overall supervision, administrative planning, control, and coordination of the management functions of the Respiratory Care Department in order to achieve both quality and financial objectives in the provision of healthcare, education, and participation in hospital and community health programs. His/Her time is proportionally divided between managerial and patient care services based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), Required

Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Program

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Extensive experience in and possessing a strong understanding of all areas of Respiratory Care including but not limited to diagnostic testing, therapeutics, monitoring, rehabilitation, home care, and patient, family, and public education. Clinical Evaluation and assessment skills are required for all age groups of patients served by the facility including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. One-year supervisory experience preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk and bend intermittently throughout the work day, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these sources to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned.
  • External and internal applicants who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions either unaided of or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis.
  • Position has an OSHA Class 1 expected exposure to blood borne pathogens.
