Description
The purpose of this job is to plan and supervise the nursing care delivered to acutely ill adult and geriatric patients in the Senior Behavioral Health Unit per all standards governing our facility. Maintains overall departmental operations in accordance with the facilities mission and philosophy. Participates and maintains performance improvement activities to assure highest standards of care.
Qualifications
Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
Current License by State Board of Nursing
Current ACLS preferred
PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk and bend intermittently throughout the work day, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these sources to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned.
- External and internal applicants who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions either unaided of or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis.
- Position has a moderate expected exposure to blood borne pathogens.
- Provides direct care to patients, which includes facilitating social and emotional needs, supervising medication schedules and evaluating patient progress.
- Collaborate with a variety of interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide the best possible care for patients.
- Educates the patients' family about them, the conditions and how to create a supportive environment for the patients to return to for long-term care and remain stable.
- Maintains a safe environment through the use of monitoring devices and restraining techniques where deemed necessary.
- Provides social support for patients by creating and encouraging patients to take advantage of opportunities such as support groups, social activities and other therapeutic measures, as well as participating with patients where appropriate.
