Position Summary

The Packaging Standard Knapp Technician is responsible for training operators on change over & setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Standard Knapp packaging equipment in a production environment.

General Purpose:

This role ensures efficient, safe, and high-quality packaging operations that meet production targets and comply with company and regulatory standards.

Position Responsibilities

Equipment Operation

  • Train Operator on Standard Knapp case packers, tray packers, bundlers, and related packaging line equipment.
  • Train Operator on Perform equipment start-up, changeovers, and shutdowns per production schedule.
  • Monitor packaging line performance, identify inefficiencies, make necessary adjustments and documentation of all adjustments.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on Standard Knapp machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues; perform all repairs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams for all repairs or upgrades.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure product packaging meets company and customer specifications (e.g., correct codes, proper seals, correct pack configurations).
  • Perform line checks, document findings, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of production, downtime, and maintenance activities in EAM and Redzone.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in safety meetings and report any hazards or incidents promptly.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve line performance, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and cross-functional improvement initiatives.

Preferred Relevant Skills and Experience

Education and Experience

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Technical certification or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial technology preferred.

· 2+ years of experience operating and maintaining packaging equipment, preferably Standard Knapp machinery.

Technical Skills

· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial equipment.

· Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.

· Basic knowledge of PLC operations (troubleshooting level).

· Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other industrial safety procedures.

Soft Skills

· Strong problem-solving abilities.

· Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

· Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

· Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed.

  • Willingness to respond to emergencies and support after-hours or on-call maintenance rotations.
  • Physical ability to work in various environmental conditions, including cold storage areas, confined spaces, and elevated platforms.

· Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

· Work Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually high. Able to work on high locations such as roofs is necessary.
