Retort Technician

Position Summary:
Operate and control retort thermal process of canned products according to processing authority specifications.

Position Responsibilities:
- Crider, Inc. requires all employees to comply with and support all Food Safety and Quality policies, programs and procedures to ensure our products meet and exceed consumers’ expectation.
- Set up, provide tier 1 maintenance, operate the machine and establish manpower work staffing.
- Controls retort to cook canned foods according to specification.
- Pushes baskets or lower baskets using lift to move retort baskets in/out of retorts.
- Observes dials and thermometers, and turns valves to admit steam to retort, and control temperature, pressure, and cooking time.
- Turns valves to release steam and admit cooling water and air into retort to maintain pressure during cooling cycle (pressure cool).
- Must be able to record items such as retort basket numbers, retort processing numbers can size, and cooking time.
- Ensure all thermal process are met, record, tracks and monitor all thermal process
- Direct retort loaders and unloaders,
- Must be able to read gauges and control valve
- Must be able to keep up with line speed in an automated environment
- Obey company safety rules and company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Must pay close attention to detail
- Must have (6) six months consecutive months work experience
- High school diploma or GED or 2 year college or equivalent technical skills environment
- Must be able to read, write legible
- Must be able to pass Better Process School
- Mechanically inclined
- Excellent math and recording skills
- Multitask skills a must

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical Demands: Must be able to bend regularly and lift up to 70 pounds
- Work Demands: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, must be available to work weekends and overtime. Must be able to pass a Drug screening.
